The English Department has evolved into a strong and dynamic team, proud of its achievements and committed to improving the literacy of all students at The Coseley School. We are marrying our teaching expertise with rapidly improving examination results and our aim is to work towards outstanding status. We are proud of our accomplishments but are never complacent – we will endlessly strive for perfection. Coseley students are entitled to the best.
The English Department fully supports the school’s ethos on excellence through effort. We endeavor to have high expectations of all students regardless of prior attainment or barriers to learning.
It is our duty to create confident, independent learners who are equipped for the demands of the 21st century. We aim to create learners who foster creativity and imagination. Our students will leave Coseley School with a passion for language and literature. They will be competent in the skills needed for the work place and have the language tools to succeed in their own future ambitions.
We promote teaching and learning that is inspirational, motivating and engaging. We aspire to achieve outstanding practice within the classroom and create outstanding learning environments for the students that we teach.
Our department is characterised by a strong sense of collaboration and enthusiasm for our subject areas and our pupils. We enjoy an excellent working relationship with staff from other departments both at our school and at others. The department’s main aim is to achieve the highest possible standard for all our pupils. We hope that pupils will enjoy their work in English and strive to ensure that our curriculum offers a rich and diverse range of learning experiences.
We perceive ourselves as a very strong team, each with his/her own contributions and strengths. It is this sense of team work which should enable us to face the challenges ahead with confidence and enthusiasm.
